Study Options

Students can choose to study either full time or part time. However you choose to study, it is important to manage your study time and consider the hours required for your chosen courses. For full time study, you should expect to study between 30 - 40 hours per week, while for part time study you should expect to study between 15 - 20 hours per week. For introductory students the study commitment is 2-3 hours a week. The amount of time you spend studying will depend upon your previous study and work experience. However, where we say that full time study will be 30 - 40 hours per week, and part time 15 - 20 hours per week, this is not a generous over estimate. You will need to be able to commit this time to your study. Many students underestimate the time they will have to invest each week, leading to problems in their ability to continue with their programme of study. Note that students will not be accepted into full time study where they work more than 20 hours a week. The time commitment required to complete programmes of study at NCNZ is too high for this to be a viable option.

Please note that part time students are able to undertake study at a faster rate than normal part time timetable. Where assessments are submitted early, these are marked early so that the student can move forward with their learning. This works well for students who have existing work and home commitments that do not allow them to comfortably commit to full time study, but do not want to take the full part time study duration to achieve their goals. As noted above, the majority of students who withdraw from their study do so because they have over committed and do not have the time each week to keep up with their learning. As such, it is important to ensure you are not taking on more that can be achieved.
