Nicola Swanson - Programme Co-ordinator, Naturopathy and Senior Tutor
BA, DipNat, DipHerbMed, CertHbt, Cert Adult Teaching, Cert Relaxation Massage, QRA and Theta Practitioner.
Nicola tutors in several subjects including medical and naturopathic assessments, iridology, nutrition and herbal medicine. Nicola trained at Wellpark College where she qualified in naturopathy and medical herbalism, and is now also a homeobotanical and QRA practitioner. Nicola also runs a private clinic where she utilises all her naturopathic and herbal training. Her clinic specialises in preconception and fertility, digestive health, allergies, and emotional imbalances such as depression and anxiety. Previously Nicola ran sales divisions overseas for differing interests, and was a key account rep in the wine industry. After many years searching for a vocation that would stimulate her and be of meaningful value to the world, she discovered naturopathy and has never looked back.
Outside of NCNZ, Nicola enjoys spending her time relaxing at home. She loves reading, sharing good food that is delicious and healthy, and getting out in nature to collect herbs for medicinal preparations.
Natalie Wallace - Programme Co-ordinator, Naturopathy and Senior Tutor
DipNat, BSocSci (Hons)
Natalie is a massage and naturopathic tutor. She is a qualified Naturopath, Massage Therapist, Homeobotanical Therapist, and holds a Bachelor in Social Science. Natalie ran a private massage business for over 16 years, and has also practiced as a Naturopath in a shared clinic in Wellington. Outside of work, Natalie is a mum of 2 busy sons and loves exploring the outdoors with them and her husband. She enjoys gardening, cycling, baking and getting lost in a good book.
Maggie Macnamara - Programme Co-ordinator, Nutritional Science and Senior Tutor
Maggie comes to the College with a Diploma in Holistic Nutrition from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition. Here she studied as a distance student, an experience that sets her in good stead for supporting our students. Maggie’s journey into natural healing began with the birth of her first child and a subsequent association with La Leche League. She has a background operating an organic farm producing market garden veggies and dairy goats in Canada, and has resided in New Zealand since 2004 with her son and Kiwi partner.
Maggie is very passionate about food quality and the difference that can make to our lives by improving what we eat. Her focus includes all age groups, from pre-natal care and breastfeeding right through to elder care. She lives just outside New Plymouth on a lifestyle block and is back on the self-sufficiency journey with an abundant garden, orchard and animals.
Roimata Takie - Senior Tutor, Maori and Pasifika Support Team
Dip Applied Sci, Cert Mass, Cert HbT, Cert Adult Teaching
Roimata has been a tutor of anatomy and physiology at the College since 2005. Her interest in Anatomy and Physiology grew from her work as a massage practitioner. The diversity of the community groups and the disorders she encountered drew her back to studying, with a focus on altered anatomy and physiology. Along side her work with NCNZ she continues to study and apply different health modalities as a massage practitioner, which has deepened her appreciation of the human body.
Annemarie Wissema - Tutor
DipNat, RN, Cert Adult Teaching
Annemarie is a tutor in anatomy and physiology and naturopathy. She trained in The Netherlands as a nurse and naturopath, and migrated to NZ in 2003. After gaining nursing registration in NZ she worked at Southern Cross in New Plymouth before taking on a full time tutor for at NCNZ between 2005 and 2007. She also ran a private clinic at home, which included practicing as a Naturopath alongside work with Reiki and Kinesiology.
Annemarie now works part time, alongside caring for her son Blake. Naturopathy and natural therapies in general are an inspiration to the way she lives and raises her son. She lives on a lifestyle block just outside New Plymouth and enjoys growing and eating her own food.
Robina Bedwell - Tutor
BEd (Adult Ed.), Dip CIDESCO, Dip CIBTAC Esthetiques, Body Therapy, Electrical Epilation
Robina is a tutor in Anatomy and Physiology. She has a Bachelor in Education (Adult Ed.) from Massey University and Diplomas’ in Beauty Therapy from The Steiner Beauty Therapy School in London.
She is an experienced facial and body therapy tutor having worked full-time at both WELTEC and WITT. She has also worked in busy clinics in New Zealand and London providing facial and body analysis and treatments.
Robina is passionate about optimum skin health and positive ageing. She has enjoyed facilitating hot stone massage workshops for body therapists and has been the Taranaki area representative for NZARBT (New Zealand Association of Registered Beauty Therapists inc.) for the past five years.
Robina returned from overseas to start a family and lives in New Plymouth with her husband and two young children. Together they enjoy an active outdoor lifestyle and having family and friends over for celebrations and scrumptious foods.
Gay-Lynn Mokrzecki - Tutor
BSC, Adv Dip Health Sc (Naturopathy), Practitioner Herbal Medicine
Gay-Lynn tutors in nutrition, herbal medicine and clinical case taking. She has an Advanced Diploma in Health Science (Naturopathy) and Practitioner in Herbal Medicine from the Australian College of Natural Medicine, and has also completed subjects towards a Graduate Diploma in Nutritional Medicine through the University of New England.
Gay-Lynn has operated successful naturopathic clinics for more than 15 years, incorporating computerised iridology, allergy testing and haemaview analysis. This includes working in both Australia, where she also worked for six years for a leading Australian supplement company, and in New Zealand, where she spent seven years with a NZ health store franchise. Within her clinical practice she has developed a special interest in empowering those with cancer. Gay-Lynn has also lectured in nutritional medicine at the Australian College of Natural Medicine in Brisbane.
Balancing working and home life is important to Gay-Lynn and she loves spending time with her family and dogs. Her interests include successfully showing her dobermanns.
Kate Morgan - Tutor
DipNat, DipNut, Cert Mass, Cert A&P
Kate is a naturopathic tutor working in the areas of case taking, clinical practice, aromatherapy, nutrition and stress management. Kate is a naturopath and nutritionist, and has completed a post graduate diploma in fertility and reproductive health. Alongside her work at NCNZ she runs a private clinic in central New Plymouth, with a particular interest in working with women's hormones, digestive health and nutritional guidance. She also has experience in the retail health sector. Outside of work Kate enjoys spending time with friends and family, and indulging in her passion for food by creating healthy and tasty delights in the kitchen.
Karen Niven - Tutor
ND, BHSc (comp. med), Natural Fertility Management Counsellor, Cert in Adult Teaching
Karen is a naturopathic tutor and has both a Bachelor in Health Science (complementary Medicine) and a Diploma in Natural Therapies. She graduated from South Pacific College in 1994 and has been practicing Naturopathy for the last 21 years in Tauranga. She has also worked for two supplement companies and ran her own cooking school based on the Body Ecology principles - yeast, sugar, gluten and dairy free food to recolonise the gut. This combined her passion for educating and her love of cooking. Having a work life balance is important to Karen and she loves being outside at the beach, boating, hiking and skiing.
Selena Quinn - Tutor
DipNat, DipNut, DipHerbMed
Selena is a naturopathic tutor and also sees private clients out of her Auckland based clinic. There she specialises in women and children's health, infertility, hormonal, digestive and allergy support.
Selena is also an award winning chef. Her great love for healthy food and traveling led her around the world working in remote areas from the highlands of Scotland to Arctic Russia, providing vast culinary and cultural experiences. She runs regular cooking classes, inspiring clients in practical ways to enhance their health naturally. She is also a regular guest speaker at the west Auckland SPACE groups, supporting mums with starting their babies on solids. Outside of work, Selena is a busy mum who loves being outdoors and active.
Jessica Knight - Tutor
Jessica is a tutor in Medical Sciences. She trained in the United Kingdom as a Registered Nurse over 20 years ago and has worked extensively in the UK and USA, until finally migrated to NZ in 2010. Jessica has worked in many types of settings, from intensive care to community care with the elderly. Her passion for the scientific under pinning’s of care and the body systems drew her to focus on anatomy and physiology from the beginning of her career.
During her Masters Degree in Health Education / Health Promotion it became clear to Jessica that a holistic view of healthcare is essential, making her a natural fit at NCNZ. Jessica recently added massage therapy to her skillset, and the power of a healing touch is a new exploration in her own journey. Outside of work Jessica like to swim, surf ski, walk and enjoy the beautiful NZ countryside her two boys.
Kelly Phillips - Tutor
Kelly is a tutor in herbal medicine, iridology and clinical case taking. Her training includes a Diploma in Naturopathy and a Diploma in Ayurvedic Medicine, both from Wellpark College of Natural Therapies in Auckland. She has operated her own health clinic for several years in Auckland and co-owned a herbal tea company making therapeutic tea blends, which arose out of making custom made herbal tea blends for clients.
Kelly is passionate about incorporating healing foods and herbs into our day to day lives, and can often be found at home making fermented food and herbal remedies with her daughters. She live with her husband and daughters on a small block of land on the outskirts of New Plymouth, with includes native bush and a developing food forest and gardens.
Pam Sole - Tutor
Pam tutors homoeopathy. She attained her Diploma in Homoeopathy through the Bay of Plenty College of Homoeopathy in 1994. As a tutor she draws upon 20 years of clinical practice and 25 years of teaching community courses in homoeopathy in the home. Her interest in homeopathy had its beginnings with the care of her 5 children. Pam runs H.O.M.E (Homeopathy Online Mentoring and Education), where she mentors students learning homoeopathy. For NCNZ, she teaches the homeopathy unit within the Diploma in Naturopathy.
Pam has always had a natural interest in health and wellbeing, and supports this by growing organic foods for herself, keeping fit and practicing meditation, yoga, tai chi and chi gong.
